Katie Christensen, PhD, ACMHC

Hi, I am Katie. I earned a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and a master’s degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage, Couples, and Families and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas State University and have been working in the mental health field for 13 years.

I help individuals, couples, and families strive for wellness in life. I aim to help you recognize and understand the emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that may be keeping you from making any changes you want for yourself. Using a narrative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach, I recognize you as the expert in your own life and value the strengths, abilities, wisdom, and personal characteristics you bring to counseling. I use the Gottman Method in my work with couples.

I specialize in treating adults and couples with a variety of concerns including grief and loss, self-esteem, life transitions, identity development, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, and weight-related concerns.

I am passionate about recognizing and reducing anti-fatness in mental health care. I recognize that individuals with higher body weight experience anti-fatness from loved ones, professionals, and society and I am dedicated to addressing and reducing this stigma, specifically in the counseling profession.  I am passionate about providing quality services where you feel safe to be your authentic self and express yourself freely while feeling heard and understood.

I look forward to meeting you and working together on your personal journey of healing and growth!

Katie is an ACMHC and is supervised by Nick Koontz, LMFT.

Katie accepts BCBS, EMI, UHC, PEHP, Select Health and DMBA
